Fried Cabbage with Shrimp and Beef Sausage is an easy one-pan dinner featuring tender cabbage, juicy shrimp, and savory smoked beef sausage sautéed with garlic, onions, butter, and flavorful seasonings.
1 medium head green cabbage, chopped
1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
12 oz fully cooked beef sausage, sliced
1 medium yellow onion, sliced
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 tbsp olive oil, divided
2 tbsp unsalted butter
1/2 cup low-sodium chicken broth
1 tsp smoked paprika
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp salt, or to taste
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
1 tbsp fresh lemon juice (optional)
2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
1. Prepare the cabbage, shrimp, sausage, onion, and garlic.
2. Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
3. Brown the sausage for 3–5 minutes, then transfer to a plate.
4. Add remaining oil and cook shrimp for 1–2 minutes per side, until opaque and 145°F internally. Set aside.
5. Melt butter in the skillet. Sauté onion for 3–4 minutes, then add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
6. Add cabbage, seasonings, and chicken broth. Cover and cook for 8–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tender.
7. Uncover and cook briefly to evaporate excess liquid.
8. Return sausage and shrimp to the skillet. Toss gently and heat for 1–2 minutes.
9. Finish with lemon juice and fresh parsley. Serve hot.
Use fully cooked smoked beef sausage or beef kielbasa.
Thaw frozen shrimp completely and pat dry before cooking.
Adjust salt carefully because sausage may already be salty.
Add Cajun seasoning or bell peppers for extra flavor.
Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for 3–4 days.
Reheat leftovers to 165°F.
Serve with rice, cornbread, mashed potatoes, or roasted vegetables.
