2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tbsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup warm water
Vegetable oil for frying
1 lb lean ground beef
1 packet taco seasoning
1 can pinto beans, drained
2 cups shredded lettuce
1 cup diced tomatoes
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 ripe avocado, cubed
Fresh cilantro for garnish
1. Mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
2. Add water and stir until a soft dough forms.
3. Knead gently and let rest for 15 minutes.
4. Brown beef in a skillet and drain fat.
5. Add seasoning and beans; simmer for 5 minutes.
6. Heat oil in a skillet to 350°F.
7. Flatten dough balls into 1/4-inch disks.
8. Fry dough until golden brown on both sides.
9. Top fry bread with meat, beans, and fresh toppings.
Do not overwork the dough to keep it fluffy.
Oil must be hot (350°F) to prevent greasiness.
Leftover bread is best reheated in a toaster oven.
